Vellanvaidyar: traditional tribal healer near Thirunelli

Vellanvaidyar is a traditional herbal healer of the Kurichya tribal community. The blog places his practice at the foot of the Thirunelli temple in northern Wayanad and says people come to him from far away, some after other treatment has not helped.

Among the ailments it mentions are asthma, diabetes and bone fractures, and it says he also treats children. The post also describes how tribal healers keep their recipes secret and how little of this knowledge is written down.
